East Sandusky Bay MetroPark - Eagle Point |
|
Located on Route 6 (Cleveland Road) between Huron and Sandusky and extending to the edge of East Sandusky Bay, the area in these photos is referred to as Eagle Point which is the northwestern portion of the 1,200 acre of the Community Foundation Preserve which includes Putnam Marsh, Joseph Steinen Wildlife and Wyandotte Meadows and is collectively known as East Sandusky Bay MetroPark. Several nests of American Bald Eagles have made this their home (hence the name) but it also provides several marshy inlets which provides a habitat for both breeding and migrating birds. The area was acquired by Erie MetroParks in 2003 and it's open to the public year-round with some restrictions during the eagle nesting season. |

East Bay Trail Review: There is one trail that goes from the parking area beside Cleveland Road to the edge of the East Sandusky Bay. The trail starts through a moved meadow that winds through a wooded area which then moves onto a utility road and finally ends at the bay. This is an easy trail to walk with no inclines or obvious lowland area and most seniors would find it a comfortable trail to walk. It's about a twenty minutes walk back to the water and probably around 45 minutes total walking time. And there are marshes at Eagle Point, so during the summertime, use a bug spray or anti-bug lotion on your skin. |
