Settlers Weekend - Milan, Ohio |
|
Each year, on the third weekend of October, the Milan Historical Museum opens their doors free to the public to celebrate what is called "Settlers Weekend." Over this Saturday/Sunday period you can take a ride in horse drawn buggy (provided you bring along a can of food to donate), watch or participate in a variety of "pioneer" arts and crafts for both children and adults, see antique tractors, watch early engines and even meet some famous people such as President Lincoln, General Ulysses Grant and all the settlers who help re-create the 1800's. During the annual Settlers Weekend, you can shop for traditional foods or visit the museum gift shop for souvenirs Food vendors feature everything from deep fried sweet potatoes sprinkled with cinnamon-sugar to mouth watering brats. All of the homes and buildings of the museum are open to the public. Dress warmly, stay late because Settlers Weekend is one of Milan's most popular events. |
