Huron River Trail MetroPark |
|
The Huron River Trail is an 1 1/4 mile long, north-south linear park which runs from the trailhead at the water tower in Huron to Franklin Flats (shown above). Previously, part of this area was known as the Huron River Greenway, which is no longer in existence. Our photos show both trail and the scenic area beside the trail. The Huron River Trail helps protect the many species of wildlife, flowers, trees and birds along with preserving for future generations The trail will get an enhancement on the north side for about one mile that also incorporates an entrance in the Dupont Marsh, which also share the trailhead parking lot.. |

Huron River Trail - Seniors Walking Guide |
| Name of Trail | Surface | Difficulty | Distance | Hand/Access |

This is a linear park so, unlike most park trails, these trails do NOT circle back to the starting point. There are a variety of crossings, wood bridges and benches along this trail with a parking area at the water tower trailhead. As with all walking tails, a walking stick or cane may be useful for seniors. If walking alone, please carry a cell phone. The HRT is a great park for walking, jogging or bicycling but never go further than the distance you are prepared to return to your starting point. In theory, these trails are handicap accessible however, because of the surface of the trail, there are some limitations depending upon the specific handicap requirements. I would also strongly advise you to use Off, Cutter or some other bug repellent, during the summer season, when walking the HRT or any other trail in this area. |
